Studying Alcohol and Cannabis Use in Daily Life

Description

This presentation will provide an overview of the èßäapp Center for Addiction Research and Engagement (MO-CARE), including alcohol and addiction research, training, and outreach activities throughout the University of èßäapp system.

Dr. McCarthy will present findings from his ongoing work using mobile technology to examine how the acute effects of alcohol and cannabis impair judgment and decision making and increase risk for significant negative consequences from use.

Dr. Denis M. McCarthy is the Frederick A. Middlebush Professor of Psychology and Associate Chair for Research in the Department of Psychological Sciences at the University of èßäapp. He received his BA in Psychology and Philosophy from the University of Notre Dame, his Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from the University of Kentucky, and his Clinical Internship and Post-doctoral work at the University of California San Diego. He has been a professor at the University of èßäapp since 2002. His research has focused on identifying predictors of alcohol-related negative consequences, with a particular emphasis on risk for driving while impaired by alcohol or cannabis. His work has been consistently funded by NIH/NIAAA since 2002. He is the Director of MU’s Addiction Training group, funded by NIAAA training grants (T32 and R25) that supports 18 undergraduate, pre- and post-doctoral training per year.  He is also the Director of the èßäapp Center for Addiction Research and Engagement at the University of èßäapp, which provides support to addiction-related research and training activities across the University of èßäapp system.
