280.010 Student Health Services

Previous Student Health Regulations are hereby rescinded. Bd. Min. 2-18-72, p. 36,240; Bd. Min. 2-7-86.

  1. These regulations are based upon the findings of this Board that reputable medical opinion has established the necessity to:
    1. Protect students and members of the University community by ensuring, so far as possible, that communicable and contagious diseases will not be spread among them.
    2. Determine the physical condition of the individual student to assist in ascertaining whether or not he or she should participate in the physical education program, extracurricular activities, and intercollegiate athletics.
  2. It is hereby resolved by this Board:
    1. That all students enrolling in the University for the first time may be required to submit satisfactory medical information.
      1. Any student may be suspended if he does not comply with requirements concerning the medical information or special examination deemed necessary for the health and safety of the campus community.
    2. That there shall be a Student Health Officer on each campus appointed by the Chancellor, who shall be authorized:
      1. To recommend to allow any student to withdraw from the University at any time if he has a medical condition that significantly interferes with his attendance or progress at school,
      2. Or to require a student to withdraw from the University at any time if he has a medical condition that constitutes a hazard to himself, to other students or the campus community.
    3. That the campus Student Health Officer be authorized to require any former student or prospective student to receive a medical clearance before being admitted or re-admitted to the University where this is deemed advisable in the best interests of the student or the campus community.
    4. That the campus Student Health Officer be authorized to submit to appropriate campus administrators, from time to time, in light of reputable medical opinion, such recommendations as he may deem necessary to improve health conditions for students or other members of the University community.
    5. The Chancellor on each campus shall, at an appropriate time, establish a policy to implement the combating and control of specific communicable diseases, including requiring immunizations and quarantines.
